The memorial scholarship is funded by the donations raised at an annual soccer game held in autumn on the Emerson Jr.-Sr. High School football field. The game is followed by a reception in the school cafeteria.
The inaugural game was played December 1, 2012, under the football field lights. Dozens of Daanish’s friends, family, and coworkers, joined by the Emerson boys soccer team, came together to remember and honor Daanish and play the game he loved.
The second-annual game occurred on November 29, 2013. Despite the cold, there was a strong turnout and a spirited game.
The third-annual game and reception happened on November 8, 2014. It was the first to use Emerson’s new turf football field, and the beautiful autumn weather prompted a strong turnout and an exciting game.
The fourth-annual game was held on November 27, 2015. The boys soccer team, following one of the most successful seasons in their program’s history, joined Daanish’s friends and family for a competitive game and a warm reception.
The fifth-annual game was held on November 25, 2016. With generous contributions from Daanish’s friends and family, the scholarship enjoyed one of its most successful years yet.
The sixth-annual game was held on November 25, 2017, with beautiful weather and a new seven-versus-seven half-field format for the soccer game.
We met on November 24, 2018 for a wonderful seventh year with friends, family, and several dogs in sweaters.
